How may I renew my membership if I cannot afford my dues?
Members may use their automatic grace period, use a payment plan for dues, or request for a partial or full waiver of dues. Here's how to proceed with these renewal options.
AILA Members automatically receive a 60-day grace period after their membership expires, and retain full membership benefits during this time.
A payment plan for membership dues is also available to renewing AILA regular attorney members. Simply sign up for the payment plan at checkout.
For a step-by-step guide on using the payment plan for membership dues, see our Help Center article, How do I use a payment plan for AILA membership dues?
According to AILA’s Bylaws, “Upon the recommendation of the Membership Committee, the Executive Committee may waive the annual Membership dues of any person who has been a Member of the Association for at least three years based on emergent or humanitarian considerations. To be eligible for the waiver, the Member must provide the documentation prescribed by the Executive Committee. The Executive Committee may issue dues waivers in increments of up to one year and may include a waiver of the Chapter membership requirements described in these Bylaws for the duration of the dues waiver.”
Request a waiver of dues based on emergent or humanitarian considerations by submitting an AILA National Waiver Request Submission Form. If you have not been a member for at least three years (as stated above), you may use this same form for a waiver of the requirement to have been a member for three years by choosing "Eligibility" as the nature of the reason for your request. Your request will be received by the AILA National Membership Committee, who will contact you as developments on your request occur. Please allow 4-6 weeks for determination on your waiver request.
