According to AILA's Bylaws, "A Member must maintain membership in the Chapter that has or acquires geographical jurisdiction over the principal place of business of the Member," and; "If a Member retires, the Member must maintain status in the original Chapter or in the Chapter that has jurisdiction over the principal place of
residence of the Member."
The principal place of business or residence is considered the primary mailing address we have on record for you.
If you are about to renew your AILA membership, update your mailing address first. After you update your mailing address, our system will recognize the change and automatically assign your new chapter when you renew.
Log in to AILA.org and click on the welcome message at the top-right to open your My AILA Page. Click on "My Addresses" near the top of the page, then on the Pencil icon at the bottom-right of your mailing address in the "Membership and Directory Addresses" pane. If you have more than one mailing address, be sure that you're updating your primary mailing address by looking for the star icon at the bottom-left of the address.
All required fields are denoted by a red asterisk (*). You must have one primary mailing address, but you do not need to share your address on the Member Directory. If you don't wish to have this address shared to the Member Directory, ensure "Member Directory Listing" is unchecked. Be sure to save your changes when you're done.
When you renew your membership, you will find your primary chapter selected for you based on your new mailing address. Follow the prompts and complete checkout to renew your membership and join the new chapter.
If you are outside your membership renewal window (60 days before your membership term end date) and would like to join the chapter for your new area, first follow the steps for updating your primary mailing address above. Then follow the steps outlined in the Help Center article May I join additional chapters outside the one for my area? to join your new chapter at a prorated rate.
